Contributions + Collaboration + Community = Learning the Web 2.0 Way!

The term “Web 2.0” is all the rage lately.  But what is it and why is it important for second language instruction?  We’ll provide an overview of Web 2.0 concepts and give examples of how to motivate and involve your students with these easy-to-use web applications.  With Web 2.0, it’s easier than ever for students to contribute, collaborate and build community in the target language!

Panel Discussion: Using Wikis for Student Projects

See how instructors from ESL and Spanish used wikis to improve collaboration in their classes last semester.  Panelists will describe how students were able to successfully contribute to wikis with only basic technological skills, allowing the instructors to focus on the language task and not the tool.

Introduction to the LC Development Studio and Video Editing

Come to this session to learn about the Language Center Multimedia Development Studio. Discover what equipment and services are available to language instructors who want to create multimedia instructional materials. This session has a special focus on working with video materials.

Using VideoANT for Peer Feedback

VideoANT is an online video annotation tool that allows users to make time-line based textual comments in synchronization with online video. While VideoANT is an ideal tool for instructors to provide feedback, it can also be used to facilitate student peer reviews. Participants will be able to practice using VideoANT during this presentation.

iTunes U for Language Instruction

iTunes U is a system that uses iTunes technology to manage, distribute and control access to educational audio and video content for students within the University as well as the broader community. We will show you how to request an account, how to upload files to it, and how to get your students to use it.  We will also lead a discussion on the possible applications of iTunes U for language instruction.

Hands on Training

Wimba VoiceTools on Moodle

Four of the Wimba Voice Tools are now available on the University Moodle course management system.  They are Voice Board, Voice Presentation, Podcaster and Voice Recorder.  Come to this session to learn how to set these tools up on your Moodle course website.

Wimba VoiceTools on WebVista

Wimba VoiceTools are available through your WebVista course site – no additional software is needed! Learn how you and your students can use a VoiceBoard as a class communication tool, how your students can comment on web material with VoicePresentation, or how you can create a Podcast with content created specifically for your class or by your students! Other tools include VoiceRecorder and VoiceEmail.

Editing Audio

Learn how to create and edit digital audio. The workshop will focus on the basics of creating (recording) digital audio, choosing the right format, saving, editing, and publishing the final product.
